Music takes away hatred in those who are without love. It gives peace to those who are restless, it consoles those who mourn.

[Pablo Casals]

With admirable political and humanist principles, Pablo Casals took some big decisions peacefully at the advent of Francoism: he silenced his cello for as long as Europe was in Fascist hands and would never return to Spain, to his Catalonia, while Franco held his role as dictator. Only the music of Bach was able to bring Pablo Casals back from his intractable silence after the Second World War.
